What will my child learn in elementary music?

How can my child participate in music outside of Music class?
Students can be involved in music and musical performances if they sign-up for Chorus, Band, or performance opportunities like PTA Meetings or the Evening of the Arts. Visit the "Chorus" tab and watch for permission slips in your child's Thursday folder.
What instruments will my child learn to play in music class?
In Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade music class, students engage in using a variety of classroom instruments including: Rhythm sticks, Egg shakers, Hand drums, Triangles, Sand blocks, Wood blocks, Tambourines, Xylophones, Kazoos, Boom Whackers, and many more!
In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade music class, students learn, in addition to playing classroom instruments, to play the Soprano recorder. Recorders are for sale in the music room for $7.00 cash or check (checks made out to TRES).
Usually 5th grade begins recorder following Thanksgiving break, 4th grade begins recorder in the Winter, and 3rd grade begins recorder in the Spring. This schedule may vary slightly from year to year. It is recommended that your child practice their recorder for 10-15 minutes each night.
In 4th & 5th grade, students may choose to participate in band or orchestra. Band and orchestra is organized independently from music class. Email our band teachers: Brian Hinkley or Charles Berry for more information.
In 5th grade music, students will be introduced to guitar during term 4! The TRES Music department is equipped to provide a 1-to-1 guitar-to-student ratio! Students do NOT need to purchase of bring a guitar to music class. If your child has access to a guitar at home it is recommended that they practice 10-15 minutes a night.

hOW OFTEN WILL MY CHILD HAVE MUSIC CLASS?
Students will receive music instruction twice a week for 40 minutes. If we do not have school, this instructional time is not made up.
